In its bid to claw its way from its current status into top-tier status, there’s a new market on which AMD is increasingly focusing: the AI chip market.

AMD that is led by Lisa Su at the Computex technology expo launched new AI Processors. They also launched a two-year plan when they declared war against NVIDIA which is the current market leader in the AI chips department.

New Chips on the Horizon

The hero of the show was the MI325X accelerator, a brand-new chip designed by the Sunnyvale-based AMD specifically for machine learning. 

Set to commence in the final quarter of 2024, it is expected that this is AMD’s entry into what can be considered a new domain of the chip industry. It’s not new that AMD manufactures computer processors, but this is a big leap toward challenging NVIDIA whose market is majorly in the AI chips.

For future purposes, AMD also declared the MI350 series that is expected to be out in the market in 2025. This upcoming series touts a whole new chip architecture and should be 35X faster than what AMD currently provides for tasks like providing AI responses.

The announcements did not stop there. AMD also announced a still more powerful MI400 series to be based on an architecture referred to as “Next,” to be released in 2026.

Peering at the Current Leader of the AI Market

These new chips divulge that the firm is keen on advancing its position in data centers. As AI is gradually being integrated into various fields including cloud computing, and other sectors and companies, efficient AI processors have a major role. Thus, by providing numerous opportunities, AMD plans to gain an important market share within the range of consumers, which is now owned by NVIDIA and constitutes 80%.

AI Chips: A Future Outlook

The rivalry between AMD and NVIDIA in the production of AI chips is a fierce race at the moment. Thus, following AMD’s aggressive two-year plan and the power of the new processors, buyers will be able to observe more advancements within the sphere of AI and, hypothetically, even pay less for it.
